Fred Rusk and the Zydeco Hi-Steppers are one of the best and Most Reliable Zydeco bands in Houston. Reliability is very important in a Zydeco band.

Fred Rusk was born and raised in Houston, TX. He comes from a family of R&B and gospel. Fred learned to sing in a church choir. Fred was introduced to zydeco at the Plaisance Festival in Louisiana in 1994, also in the year of 1994 Fred was determine and resourceful to playing the accordian and influence with determination by Keith Frank, while driving his work truck and talking on a two-way radio. Super Dave ( David Collins Jr. ) and Fred were joking around about starting a band. “Super Dave” said, Fred you get the accordian and I’ll get the scrub board. So Fred went to Gabbanelli Accordian and purchased a single row accordian. After trying to learn to play on his own and not getting anywhere, Fred’s aunt Marie Thibodeaux invited Fred and his wife Sarah to a zydeco dance featuring Geno Delafose. Porter Gibbs introduce Fred to Geno and more musicians, trying to find someone that teaches accordian lessons. Fred talked to Mr. Leo Thomas ( The Bull ) and asked Mr. Thomas if he knew anyone that gives accordian lessons, Mr. Thomas replied saying “ my son Leroy Thomas does and he will be here later. About a hour later Leroy Thomas walks in and I (Fred) introduced myself and in July of 2000 I started taking accordian lessons from Leroy Thomas. A year later Fred started playing with his family’s band at Acres homes barn in Houston , TX and shortly after Fred established his own band known as “ Fred Rusk and the Zydeco Hi-Steppers” Fred’s first cd was released in April of 2007. The cd entitled “ You doing me wrong“.
